Scottish buyers smash asking prices

Demand for homes has more than doubled in parts of Scotland over the past year. Fresh data reveals the most sought-after locations amid reports that buyers are paying up to 40% over the asking price. According to analysis by Rightmove, Scotland’s most desirable place is Milngavie in East Dunbartonshire where demand for property — measured by inquiries to estate agents — rose 111% between February last year and last month. In Largs, which lies on the west coast, demand rose by 102% and in Linlithgow, 98%. Analysis of property prices suggest that the highest proportionate rise has been in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, where the average asking price went up 13% from £105,697 to £119,935. Based on sales agreed, the biggest rise was in Aberdeen (63%) followed by Dundee (52%) and Kirkcaldy in Fife (24%).
