E-commerce boom boosts UK logistics and warehousing sector

Transport, logistics and warehousing is the UK's fastest-growing sector, with the Office for National Statistics revealing on Monday that the sector has almost doubled since 2011. This puts logistics ahead of information and communication, while logistics firms have also grown eight times faster than retail. The rapid growth comes amid surging demand for e-commerce, which was accelerated during the pandemic as lockdowns required people to order more goods and services online. The ONS said that the growing demand for e-commerce has also contributed to a dramatic increase in new warehouse construction projects, with new orders for the construction of warehouses worth £5.6bn in 2021.
