Demand for office space has jumped at the fastest rate in seven years, according to the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics). The share of surveyors reporting a rise in demand for offices outweighed those seeing a fall by a margin of 30%, the highest proportion since 2015. Tarrant Parsons, economist at Rics, said it shows commuters are returning to town and city centres. "It started off in London, but the regions too are also seeing that trend." However, he added: "The hybrid model for working is set to stay, so companies are not leasing quite so large floor spaces, but certainly the number of deals has gone up noticeably in the first quarter."
